Introduced in 2021 as the replacement for the outgoing Optima, the Kia K5 is a sportier sedan that turns heads and offers a wealth of advanced technology.

The 2023 Kia K5 is available at five trim levels: LXS FWD, GT-Line FWD, GT-Line AWD, EX, and GT.

Exterior

The sharp exterior of the new Kia K5 can be painted in a host of sophisticated colors like Everlasting Silver, Passion Red Tint Coat, Ebony Black, and Sapphire Blue. In the front is a Hyper Silver front grille flanked by angular multi-reflector headlights, which can be upgraded to LED projector headlights for increased visibility. The standard 16-inch alloy wheels are appealing, but you can also opt for larger 18- or 19-inch wheels with Gloss Black or Gray Machined finishes. The ultimate sporty appeal arrives with the K5 GT, which adds a quad-tip dual exhaust that roars as you tear down the highway.

When it comes to function, you'll find heated, power-adjustable side view mirrors as standard with the option for a power-folding capability on higher trims.

Performance

Across four of the five 2023 K5 models is the same turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 180 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. This engine works with an eight-speed automatic transmission to get up to 27 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway.[1] However, the top GT trim boasts a larger 2.5-liter turbo that generates an exhilarating 290 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. With the wet type eight-speed automatic and steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, you can expect to get up to 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.[1]

All K5 models come with a Drive Mode Select system that lets you choose between ECO, SPORT, SPORT+ (with Launch Control), COMFORT, SMART, and CUSTOM settings. The GT-Line AWD model, of course, adds all-wheel drive and a separate SNOW mode for added stability and traction.

Interior

The cabin of the new Kia K5 is replete with comfortable and convenient features. For starters, all models come with remote start and dual-zone climate control. Cloth seats are the standard, but that switches out to a combination of cloth and SynTex (synthetic leather) or full SynTex seats on certain trims. The GT model adds sport bolster front seats to keep you secure on thrilling drives. For the ultimate in comfort, opt for the GT-Line FWD model and above, which come with a 10-way power driver's seat with two-way power lumbar adjustment. Other features that become available throughout the K5 lineup include heated and ventilated front seats, a memory driver's seat, a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel, and wood graphic trim.

Technology

Of course, the interior of the 2023 Kia K5 is also filled with smart tech to make life easier and more enjoyable. The standard 8-inch touch-screen display on the base trim connect seamlessly with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ so you can use your favorite compatible apps on the go. You can also connect your devices via Bluetooth® or via the USB data port in the front console. Other standard tech includes voice recognition, a six-speaker audio system, a front USB charging port, and two second-row USB charging ports.

Once you get past the base model, you'll find a larger 10.25-inch touch-screen display with navigation and Kia Connect remote connectivity. These models also come with SiriusXM® satellite radio and a wireless phone charger for added convenience. An available Bose® premium audio system with 12 speakers is available on the EX and GT trims, offering exceptional sound quality.
